Review: MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in "Up the Amp"

MAC "Up the Amp" Amplified Creme Lipstick

The weather has done a complete 180 around here this week! It's gone from, needing AC because it's 95 degrees, all the way down to 55 degrees! It's safe to say Fall is definitely here. So with that in mind, I thought I would review a lipstick that just screams Fall!

The MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in "Up the Amp" is a gorgeous bright lavender purple that looks great on just about anyone. This lipstick retails for $17 (0.1 oz) in-store at MAC counters and stores, and online on the MAC Website.

This is a cult favorite by many lipstick lovers, so let's get in to the review!

MAC Up the Amp Amplified Creme Lipstick

Each permanent line MAC lipstick comes in the standard black lipstick tube packaging, and features a delightful vanilla scent that is not overpowering.

Up the Amp is a bright medium lavender toned violet purple. It does have slightly warm undertones, so be aware it can make the teeth look slightly yellow.

The color is similar to Urban Decay's new Matte Revolution Lipstick in "Bittersweet", Up the Amp has a shiny cream finish, and the color is lighter and more purple.

The formula.

This lipstick, as with the rest of the Amplified Creme Lipsticks, has a very creamy texture that glides on very easily to the lips without skipping or looking streaky. The formula feels very hydrating and leaves your lips looking shiny and healthy.

Despite the hydrating formula of the lipstick, the color payoff is fantastic! With just two passes of the lipstick, I was able to reach total opacity and the color didn't have any patches or steaks.

The color is not going to be completely opaque like a liquid lipstick such as the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, Too Faced Melted Lipsticks, or like Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks. This formula let's your natural lip color come through just slightly but still packs a good color punch.

Longevity.

On it's own, after about 4 hours with light eating, the lipstick had just barely started to fade in the center of my lips. After about 6 hours was the color really faded on the center of the lips and in need of a touch-up where I would need to re-apply the lipstick.

With a lip liner underneath, I chose to pair it with the It Cosmetics Lip Liner in "Pretty in Pink", the lipstick wore well for about 5 and a half hours before the color faded slightly on the center of the lips, and about 7 hours before needed to re-apply.

Overall, this lipstick is the perfect color to add a pop of color for Fall without looking too pigmented or in your face. The formula is very creamy, hydrating, and looks gorgeous on the lips! The longevity is very good, not particularly long-wearing but better than average. This color doesn't need to be babied or constantly checked that it's not bleeding or transferring. If you want to try out a purple that's bold but not too much, give this a shot!
