Review: Honest Beauty Brow Filler

Honest Beauty Brow Filler

Honest Beauty finally launched online and in-stores at Ulta Beauty. This is fantastic for those of us that are Ulta Rewards Members. This means we can use our Ulta Rewards Points for dollars off the Honest Beauty products (among all other products sold at Ulta).

I picked up the Honest Beauty Brow Filler. This retails for $15 (0.01 oz) and is available in-store and the Ulta Website, and the Honest Beauty Website.

Let's get in to the review!

Honest Beauty claims:

"Fill in, shape and bring color to brows for a defined, fresh look with our Brow Filler. Dual‐ended eyebrow pencil creates a natural looking, full effect with a brush for easy blending. Fuller brows faster!"

Color.

The Brow Filler is available in 4 shades. I chose the shade, Rich Brunette. The color is a dark warm brown. Similar to MAC Brow Pencil in Spiked, but warmer, and much darker than the Urban Decay Microfine Brow Pencil in Warm Brown (See Swatches Below).

I would have preferred a more ashy brown or taupe shade for myself. The color is a little too warm and a little too dark for my hair color and complexion, it can turn too intense very quickly. If you have a more medium complexion with brown hair, this color should work just fine.

Packaging.

The actual pencil is retractable and comes packaged in a sturdy white plastic case with a spoolie on one end.

Unlike many brow pencils available on the market such as the Anastasia Brow Wiz and the NYX Micro Brow, this pencil is not small in size and it is almost impossible to create small hair-like strokes with it. I would say the pencil is about twice the size in diameter compared to the Anastasia and NYX pencils.

Formula.

The formula is stiff to begin with, so you have to work with the product to get the color payoff on your first application. After that, I experienced no problems applying this product.

As the formula isn't meant to be super pigmented, I was able to apply light pressure and achieve a more natural looking eyebrow, and when I applied more pressure, I was able to achieve a more full and dark looking eyebrow.

However, if you prefer a strong and precise brow, similar to the effect that an Anastasia Dip Brow or NYX Pomade will provide, this isn't the product for you. This is ideal for those who prefer a natural looking brow, already have a full brow, or prefer to draw eyebrows in.

The color isn't completely opaque, so I find myself having to go over the same spot several times to get the depth and shape I desire. The consistency is definitely more waxy than creamy, but it does't tug at the skin or leave my skin feeling irritating upon application.

Despite not being very creamy, it was easy to apply this pencil to my brows and not take forever to fill them in. This pencil is ideal for those who prefer a quick brow routine.

I did notice by the end of a long day that the Brow Filler had faded slightly at the tail end and the front end of my brows, which I expect from having oily skin and a brow pencil. If you have normal to dry skin, I don't believe you would experience the same fading.

Ingredients:

Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax, Cire d'Abeille), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Glycerides, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax (Cire de Candelilla), Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tocopherol, Mica. May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491/77492/77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica (CI 77019).

Overall.

The Brow Filler is perfect for filling in sparse areas of the brows and making application quick and fairly simple. The more you use the product, the easier it is to apply. However, the lack of shades and the size of the actual pencil are huge drawbacks for me. If you have full brows and are looking for a product to fill in sparse areas, you'll probably love this, but if you have little to no eyebrows or prefer a strong looking brow, this is not for you. I do like the retractable aspect of the pencil, the ingredients are fantastic, and for only $15, I'd say if you're in the market for a non-toxic brow product and need just a little bit of brow help, pick it up.

NEED IT!
