REVIEW | Honest Beauty Everything Primer

The Honest Beauty Everything Primer is one of the few primers on the Green Beauty scene. The Everything Primer retails for $27 (1 fl oz) and is available at Ulta and the Honest Beauty Website.

Honest Beauty formulates their products without parabens, paraffins, formaldehyde carriers, PEGs, steareth-n, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, petrolatum, mineral oil, or synthetic fragrances.

Let's get in to the review!

Honest Beauty claims:

Hyaluronic acid combines with a botanical peptide to help skin look smooth and fine lines less visible. Peony root extract firms and plumps skin. Mica works to deliver a subtle golden glow and makes pores less noticeable. Luminous, flawless-looking skin in one simple step.

Packaging

The full size Everything Primer is packaged in a plastic hard plastic squeeze bottle. Unfortunately because of the hard plastic, it's impossible to use up the entire bottle. The size and shape does make it ideal for storage and travel.

Product

The formula is liquid based but it not as thick as a cream. It has a distinct herbal scent that does go away after some time. 

The color is a light beige with a slight pearl finish. It leaves a luminous finish to the skin without adding glitter or sparkle.

Everything Primer

Performance

About a half dime sized amount is all that's needed to prime and prep the entire face. It applies best with the fingers.

I noticed it took longer for the primer to absorb into my skin than many other generic primers. The hyaluronic acid did leave my skin feeling slightly more hydrated throughout the day. 

However, I did notice that my cream foundation was slightly more difficult to blend out and apply when applied over the primer. My pores were not necessarily less visible nor did my complexion look more flawless. One claim that did live up to it's promise was the luminous finish.

I found that my foundation did crease less when applied with this primer, but overall longevity and wear time were not extended. I have oily and acne prone skin so this may work better with someone with a more normal skin type.

Overall

This primer does a good job with prepping the skin for foundation and applying a luminous base to an already dull complexion---which is why I will not recommend this for oily or combination skin types. It did not extend the wear time of my makeup which is one of the main reasons for even wearing a primer. If you suffer from a dull complexion and don't need to extend the wear time of your makeup, this might work for you. Otherwise I would not recommend it, and while the ingredients are not terrible, it does contain Phenoxyethanol which has links to skin irritations and be a potential central nervous system depressant.
