How to Shop Non-Toxic at Target | Beauty

Target has become a great source for finding healthy and non-toxic options. Not just in the kitchen, but in the beauty department as well! While it's no Citrine Beauty Bar or 100% Pure, Target is stepping up it's game with offering certified organic beauty options!

Here's my quick "How To" on shopping at Target for less toxic and more organic beauty options!

Let's get started!

Start with these brands in the Natural Beauty Section:
(The natural beauty section is separate from the Cosmetics aisles)

Acure Organics

Acure offers a variety of skin, hair, and body care products that are "free from animal testing, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, harmful preservatives and artificial colors."

These products are truly made with only natural and certified organic ingredients. Other brands Target offers including, Aveeno and Boots Botanics, while seemingly natural and good for the body, actually contain harmful ingredients.

I highly recommend the Firming Body Lotion, the Cell Stimulating Body Wash, and the Unscented Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes. If you're going to be using a product every day and will be absorbed by the largest body's largest organ, the skin, it should be healthy and great for your body!

And, each item that is available at Target retails for under $20!

Burt's Bees

Burt's Bees is the widely the most popular and most readily available brand on my list. The brand offers lip, skin, and body products that are formulated without "propylene glycol, butylene glycol, polyisobutene, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, DMDM hydantoin, sodium lauryl, sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, mineral oil, paraffin, or synthetic sunscreens."

While the list of ingredients on every product isn't 100% clean, it's certainly a better option than your options from brands such as Jergens, Suave, and Dove.

Now is the perfect time to try out some items from the line, they are offering Holiday value sets filled with lip products, body care, and face products! I highly recommend any of the lip balms, and be sure to keep an eye out for their new full coverage Lipsticks launching soon! I will have a review of those as soon as they become available.

Pacifica

I've talked about Pacifica recently on the blog, their products are certified cruelty free, vegan, and are "formulated without: Animal testing, animal ingredients, FD&C color, phthalates, parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, benzene, mineral oil, petroleum, peanut oil, triclosan, and other ingredients you do not want on your skin."

This line of cosmetic, body, and most recently, skin care, is quickly becoming the most readily available and affordable full line of cosmetics available.

Unlike Burt's Bees, which only offers a limited range of beauty products, Pacifica is the one brand that you can find locally that has a full line of cosmetics including foundation, mascara, eyeshadows, and lipsticks. The line is continuing to grow, so while the full array of cosmetics may not be available in-store, you can try out several products without having to shop online or go out of your way to find a store that carries non-toxic brands.

I highly recommend the Aquarian Gaze Mascara, full review HERE, and the Devocean Lipsticks. Pacifica also has several Holiday sets available that include some of their best body and skin care products. I hope Target starts to carry more of the Pacifica line!

Outside the Natural Beauty Section:

Physicians Formula Organic Wear

One brand that is available in the traditional cosmetic aisle that I do recommend is the Organic Wear from Physicians Formula. The line features products that contain "No harsh chemicals, synthetic preservatives or parabens. 70% Organic."

The line offers several mascara options and BB and CC Creams. Stay tuned for two new products two launch within the Organic Wear line, the Work It! Mascara and Tinted Moisturizer. Every product retails for under $20. Target an exclusive set featuring the Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer, full review HERE, and the Natural Origin FakeOut Mascara for only $16, check it out HERE.

This line is great for the beginner who wants to try out new green beauty products. Or if you need a gift to get that green beauty girl for Christmas, the Organic Wear Value Set is a great option!

Up & Up Organic Cotton

And finally, cotton balls are probably the last thing you think of when you're looking to go organic. Cotton is one of the most chemical-intensive crops grown on the planet. This includes pesticides and other harmful chemicals used to grow cotton.

Organic cotton is becoming more common place, but finding organic cotton balls, rounds, and Q-tips is still a little tricky. Target now has available the Up & Up Organic Cotton Balls.

Hopefully Target expands upon their Organic Up & Up line to include Q-tips and cotton rounds! Their Up & Up brand frequently has coupons and Cartwheel App offers that bring down the price of these items even lower!

The next time you are at your local Target, give these brands a look! The more we as consumers demand of natural and organic products, the more brands and stores such as Target will supply!
