Swap For Safer: LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color

The second post in the Swap For Safer series is here! If you'd like to know what this series is all about and more information, check out the first Swap For Safer post HERE

Today's post is all about lipstick! A good long-wearing lipstick can be difficult to find, and everyone seems to love a good matte lip these days. So I thought I would find a safer option to the LORAC PRO Matte Lip Colors!

Let's get started!

LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color

The LORAC PRO Matte Lip Colors are:

"...velvety-smooth, matte lip color is infused with anti-aging antioxidants of acai berry, pomegranate, grape seed extract and vitamins C and E to help nourish and protect your lips....the weightless, PRO formula easily glides on with a long-lasting, matte finish. PRO Matte Lip Color comes in an array of highly-pigmented, buildable, rich colors from natural nudes to vibrant hues for a modern, matte lip in any shade you desire."

These retail for $16 (0.03 oz) and are available in-store and online at Ulta, Kohls, and the LORAC Website. There are 12 shades available in the range.

From my experience with these lipsticks, they are highly pigmented and provide a flat matte finish. They can however feel drying on the lips. But when you need a long-wearing lipstick, this is a great option!

However, the ingredients aren't so clean.

Ingredients:

Ethylhexyl Stearate, Isododecane, Polyethylene, C10-18 Triglycerides, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isohexadecane, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Synthetic Beeswax, Ethyl Vanillin, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, BHT. May Contain: Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Blue 1 Lake (42090), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Mica (CI 77019), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 10 Lake (CI 47005).

With ingredients like BHT and the synthetic vanilla fragrance, it's toxicity is less than desirable.

Now for the safer option!

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon

The Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons are:

"...a collection of beautiful nudes, striking reds, and deep burgundies with a matte yet moist texture. The secret is the moisture-locking power of orange peel wax along with the antioxidant properties of resveratrol. The colors are water-resistent, and long wearing."

These retail for $24 (0.05 oz) and are sold exclusively in-store and online at Sephora. There are 12 shades available in the range.

If you've been following my blog posts since this summer, then it's no secret how much I love the Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons!

If you'd like to check out full reviews of these lip crayons, click HERE.

These lip crayons are highly pigmented, have amazing all-day staying power, feel moisturizing on the lips, and did I mention they're 96% natural?!

Ingredients:

Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Acacia Decurrens Wax, Jojoba Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Polyglyceryin-3, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax), Silica, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Wax, Coco-Caprylate, Copernicia Cerifera (Xarnauba) Wax, Natural Flavor, Tocopherol, Trans-Resveratrol, Vitis Vinefera (Grape) Vine Extract, Siraitia Grosvenorii (Monk Fruit Concentrate). May Contain: Mica (CI 77019, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 7492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470), FD&C Blue No. 1 (CI 42090), FD&C Yellow No. 5 (CI 19140), FD&C Yellow No. 7 (CI 15985), FD&C Red No. 40 (CI 16035), D&C Red 6 (CI 15850), D&C Red 7 (CI 15850), Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

While the lip crayons do contain synthetic dyes, the remaining ingredients are mainly certified organic and natural. They also contain a pleasant sweet scent that is all natural!

No need to sacrifice pigmentation or quality for safer ingredients! Both pencils are retractable so there's no need to sharpen, but I do prefer the Bite Beauty packaging as it feels more luxurious and sturdy.

I am so glad Sephora is starting to carry non-toxic brands like Bite Beauty, Tata Harper, and and Farmacy! When we as consumers demand safer ingredients, they listen!
