REVIEW | Silk Naturals Highlight Powder in "Holo Back"
The holographic trend has been HUGE in 2017. From eyeshadow to highlight to packaging, looking like a holographic unicorn is in. As a huge fan of the Silk Naturals highlighters, I decided to purchase their Highlight Powder in "Holo Back".
While the packaging labels the product as an eye color, the product is multi-purpose and can be used on the face or on the eyes. This retails for $4.50 (0.125 oz) and is available exclusively on the Silk Naturals Website.
Let's get started!
Silk Naturals claims:
Holo Back looks nearly white in the jar, but turns into the most gorgeous holographic color changing highlighter! It's cooler toned with hints of purple, and blue. Use it on your eyes, your cheeks, or your lips!
Packaging
Like the other loose powder products from Silk Naturals, this Highlight Powder comes in a plastic jar with a screw off top and 5 holes to dispense the product.
Not the most ideal for travel as the product can build up in the jar, but for the price and I haven't had any issue with the packaging breaking, it's not the worst thing in the world. I for one would pay twice the price for more product and larger packaging with a sifter to avoid the mess problem
Product
The product is a loose powder. It appears white in the packaging, but when you apply the powder to your face, the purple and blue shift comes out. So if you're thinking you'll be receiving an icy white highlight, think again.
The color appears as a light purple with a slight blue shift and a cool undertone. The color does not have any chunks of glitter or sparkle, so there's no need to worry about pores and texture being emphasized.
The consistency of this powder was much thinner and lighter than the previous Highlight Powders I have tried from Silk Naturals. It also did not have as intense of a reflect and shine. The color appears more as a holographic glow than a shimmery highlight.
There is absolutely no scent or fragrance to this product.

Performance
I applied "Holo Back" to the tops of my cheek bones, temples, and down the bridge of my nose with a stiff brush. As the consistency of this powder is so thin, I would recommend applying this with a dense brush.
The duo-chrome is noticeable when freshly applied but does fade throughout the day. The color wore well for about 9 hours.
I noticed that on my fair skin, the color appeared quite purple, so the duo-chrome might appear stronger if you have a more light to medium complexion.
Due to the color's cool undertone, I would not recommend this particular shade if you have a strong warm or yellow undertone, the color may appear like a bruise rather than a highlight.

Overall
In a world of shimmery and metallic highlights, "Holo Back" offers a gorgeous holographic glow that does not add to your skin's texture. While the color is quite purple, if you like a more unique color for your highlight and prefer cool toned looks, you will enjoy "Holo Back". The only down side is attributed to it's thin consistency which does make it a little harder to apply and shortens its wear time.
