My Skincare Routine For Oily/Acne Prone Skin | Vegan & Non-Toxic

Great makeup starts with great skin.

Let's talk about acne. Now let's talk about having adult acne. I am 23 and I can finally say, I am a recovering acne sufferer.

First things first, my acne is by no means 100% gone forever, and every person's skin type is different. I highly recommend a consistent routine, and taking the time to assess what your body reacts to.

I also attribute part of my skin's improvement to following a Vegan diet.

Whether your skin type is like mine, or you're looking for a Vegan and clean skincare routine, let's dive in.

My skin, circa 2008. My complexion was better, but random breakouts always popped up.

My skin, currently. The scarring is pretty bad, but the active breakouts have diminished.

Exfoliate

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub

Ridding your skin of it's dead cells is vital to keeping your skin looking fresh and improving it's overall health and appearance.

Think about this---dead cells do not absorb anything, they gather up on the skin and create discoloration, wrinkles, and texture.

So rid your face of that top layer of dead skin cells by using a physical exfoliator. A physical exfoliator works best for those with overactive sebum glands---AKA oily skin. Thick sebum clogs our pores more easily.

The Acure Facial Cleansing Scrub is my go-to. Available at Target ($9.99), this product is Cruelty-Free, Vegan, and free of any harmful ingredients.

Cleanse

It's taken me a few different concoctions and oils to create my perfect oil cleanser. If you're interested in learning about the oil cleansing method, and what types of oils work best for your skin type, check out my DIY Oil Facial Cleanser

My oil cleanser is 70% Grapeseed Oil, 30% Castor Oil, and about a dozen drops of tea tree oil.

I drop about a quarter size amount onto my palms and massage the oil into my skin. Then I remove with hot water and a wash cloth. This method never leaves your skin feeling tight or dehydrated!

Tone

This is the simplest step, but an important one for acne sufferers. Toner.

Witch Hazel is the best all natural toner for all skin types. BUT---avoid the generic Witch Hazel from Target or Walmart which contain a high percentage of alcohol. It dries out the skin.

Go for Thayer's Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel. They're available in a variety of scents, Unscented and Rose are my personal favorites.

This would be the appropriate time to apply your serums and targeted treatments.

I apply a light layer of diluted Tea Tree Oil to kill any acne-causing bacteria. The Radha Tea Tree Oil is the way to go, for the price and the amount of product you receive, completely worth it.

Moisturize

Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

Lastly, and equally as important as cleansing, is moisturizing.

Even though I have oily skin, I use Rosehip oil as a facial moisturizer. Dry skin lacks oil, oily skin produces too much. By applying oil, I'm tricking my skin into thinking it has already produced enough oil. Oh the fun logic of skincare!

I credit the Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil as my skin's perfect oil. It has reduced the appearance of my acne scars, discoloration, and has significantly improved my overall complexion. It works on the body too! Bye bye stretch marks!

Full disclaimer, it has a strong scent and a potent orange color. Oh well.

Don't forget about your eyes! The development of fine lines and wrinkles can be greatly reduced by applying moisturizer to around the eye area morning and night.

If you are under 30, and intense wrinkles and dryness are not a problem for you, the 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream is a must.

This routine is free of harsh and harmful chemicals, Cruelty-Free, and Vegan! What more could you ask for?
